Understand 5-axis machining fundamentals, compare machine structures and prepare the information needed for selection.
A 5-axis CNC machine moves along three linear axes—X, Y and Z—and two rotary axes. This allows the cutting tool to approach a workpiece from multiple directions and machine complex surfaces and multiple sides in fewer setups.
Explore DEPU 5-axis CNC machinesIn simultaneous 5-axis machining, the linear and rotary axes move together during cutting. The coordinated motion helps maintain the required tool orientation on complex contours. DEPU machines use CNC functions such as RTCP on applicable configurations to coordinate multi-axis toolpaths.
Read the simultaneous 5-axis machining guideThe main benefits are fewer setups, improved access to complex surfaces, reduced re-fixturing error, better surface consistency and shorter production time for complex parts. Shorter tools may also be used in suitable applications, which can improve rigidity and tool life.
Compare 5-axis CNC machinesStart with the maximum workpiece diameter, height and weight. Then compare travel, rotary-axis range, spindle speed and torque, tool interface, tool magazine capacity, CNC control, accuracy requirements and available floor space. DEPU can recommend a configuration based on your workpiece drawings, material and production goals.
Compare 5-axis CNC machinesThe G Series consists of Cradle Type 5-Axis Vertical Machining Centers, while the U Series consists of Vertical and Horizontal Conversion 5-Axis Machining Centers. The G Series uses a cradle-type rotary-table architecture for vertical 5-axis machining. The U Series supports both vertical and horizontal machining orientations for large, heavy and complex multi-sided workpieces. Selection depends on workpiece size, weight, access requirements and machining process.
Compare DEPU machine typesProvide the workpiece drawing or 3D model, material, maximum dimensions and weight, tolerance and surface-finish requirements, annual volume, required operations, preferred CNC control, tooling requirements and factory space constraints. This information allows DEPU to recommend a suitable machine and options.
